As a lyricsist and an artist, it’s quite difficult to not express something when things are presented to you. Recently, there’s I’ve been around friends who’s lost loved ones around this time of the year and it is really tough for them…so my sympathetic self can’t help but myself in their shoes and write about it, so this is a song about losing a loved one, in particularly a parent. And the reason it doesn’t sound as sad is because I chose to make this a song about memories and not about the sadness within it.

In writing the song, I asked myself what i‘d remember most about my own parents and how many people could relate to. And I think the most common thing hmong people had growing up is that family van. So many memories made in the van alone that it might have been an object of memories for many, even for myself. But then I made it more personal and made it about my own memories of listening to music in that van and remembering it being the spark of my love for music…

The song starting off about the milage in comparison to the age of our parents and how they always seem to be so strong both mentally and physically in our eyes. Taking us to many places and teaching us everything they can. Then it talks about the old og songs that our parents would put on and we were forced to listen to them…then we got used to it and even sing along with them. The joy and comfort within that van is everything to us is what the song is really about and how it will always remind us of our family and loved ones who’s gone.

So that’s where it all begins, in that maum van😁
