Tutor Tip Tuesday — End-of-Year Edition

The last few weeks of school bring up a lot of emotions for students. Excitement about summer. Sadness about leaving. Anxiety about change.

The best after-school educators don't just plan activities for the final weeks — they create space for students to actually process what this year meant to them.

Here are 3 conversation starters you can use with your students this week:

01 — "What's one thing you're really proud of this year?"
Opens reflection without pressure — every student has an answer to this one

02 — "What's one thing you want to do differently next year?"
Builds forward thinking and growth mindset in a natural, non-threatening way

03 — "What will you miss most about this program?"

Creates genuine closure and helps students name what they actually value

These work best in a circle — no desks, no pressure, just conversation.

Save this and share it with your team. 💙

🔨 Mother's Day is this Sunday — and here's a lesson your high school after-school students can complete this week that she will treasure forever.

Stamp Me a Gift is a 1-hour Arts & Crafts lesson for grades 9–12. Students learn the art of hand-stamping to create a fully personalized metal keychain — choosing their own word or message and permanently stamping it into a metal blank using letter punch stamps and a craft hammer.

The result is a professional-looking handmade gift that took real skill, real focus, and real care to create.

What students will learn:

✅ Metal preparation and hand-stamping techniques
✅ How to use a jeweler's bench block and craft hammer safely
✅ How to personalize and finish a metal keychain
✅ Teamwork and taking turns in a workshop setting
SEL Standards covered:
✅ Growth Mindset — students grow through effort and persistence
✅ Self-Efficacy — students build confidence in their own abilities

Materials needed (Amazon + Walmart — under $50 for 20 students):
— Aluminum stamping blanks
— Letter and number punch stamps

— Safety goggles and craft gloves
