Dr. Joseph Bui was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA where he received his undergraduate degree in Psychobiology at UCLA. He was inspired to pursue optometry by volunteering for mobile clinics in Skidrow and various mission trips throughout Mexico including Tecate, Ensenada, and Tijuana. He completed his Doctorate of Optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA.

During his time at SCCO, he gained extensive experience including an externship with Glaukos to study the latest trials in glaucoma treatment and a mission trip to Jamaica to serve low income rural communities. His clinical rotations include the Lawton Indian Hospital in Lawton, OK, the University Eye Center of Los Angeles, and Orange County Retina. He had the opportunity to work with diverse populations and work alongside retinal specialists to treat complex cases. He has experiencing practicing at a community health center along Skidrow. He is glaucoma certified and is qualified to manage and treat various conditions including glaucoma, myopia progression, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. He speaks clinical Spanish and Vietnamese.

On his free time, he trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and recently received his purple belt. He enjoys hiking, eating out, watching sports, and hopes to complete a marathon soon.
