This June, the Clovis Veterans Memorial District marked 80 years of service — and the timing couldn’t have felt more fitting. As America counts down to 250, three Valley institutions are quietly doing the work of remembering: Clovis, Dinuba and Fresno’s Veterans Memorial Museums.
📍 In Clovis, Congressman Jim Costa presented a Special Congressional Recognition to CEO Lorenzo Rios and Board Chairman Tom Wright, honoring both the District’s 80th anniversary and America’s 250th. Just steps away, the Veterans’ Garden of Honor stands as living remembrance — planted during the District’s 2006-2008 reconstruction to honor Clovis veterans lost in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan.
📍 In Dinuba, 63 years of service continue at the Veterans Memorial Building — still the go-to gathering place for veteran and civilian groups alike. Its replica Vietnam Wall, dedicated in 2015 on the 40th anniversary of the war’s end, turns the building into more than a venue. It’s a permanent memorial.
📍 In Fresno, the historic Memorial Auditorium houses the Veterans Memorial Museum, born from the dedication of Legion of Valor members and their wives. Thousands of donated items, photographs and citations tell the story of America’s wars through the eyes of the individual soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who lived them.
Three buildings. Three communities. One shared responsibility: keeping the stories alive.
As we count down to July 4th, we’re grateful for the neighbors who show up to preserve what matters — not just in textbooks, but in the rooms where we still gather.
Our team got out of the office and into the valley and we came back different! Urrutia Ranch is living proof that Central Valley land is worth protecting, and the people doing that work are worth knowing.
Grasslands, river stories, and a habit-threatened salamander reminded us why these places matter. Follow the partners keeping it beautiful Parkway and Sierra Foothill Conservancy
🏳️🌈 Last week the Pride flag rose over Fresno City Hall — and behind it is a story of neighbors.
Councilmember Miguel Arias honored our CVCF Board member, Dr. Carole Goldsmith, whose work helped bring this flag to City Hall a few years back. Her message to the crowd of community members, drag performers, and local leaders was simple: lead with love, and don’t save it for one month a year.
Visibility matters — especially now, as the latest Gallup data shows national support for the LGBTQ+ community dipping from its peak for the first time in decades.
Standing with our q***r neighbors isn’t about who you love. It’s about loving your neighbor. You belong here, Fresno. All of you. 💛
