Black History Month is a powerful time to reflect on the history and contributions of Black women, and it’s also a crucial reminder of their health. Historically, Black women have faced significant disparities in healthcare, including breast cancer. Early detection and prevention are incredibly important for all women, but especially for Black women who, statistically, are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age and in more advanced stages.

Facts to consider:
* Black women are about 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women, even though they are diagnosed at similar rates.
* Aggressive forms of breast cancer, like triple-negative breast cancer, are more common in Black women.
* Family history, genetics, lifestyle factors, and access to healthcare all play a role.

Preventative measures for all women include maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, limiting alcohol intake, and avoiding smoking. Regular mammograms and self-exams are vital for early detection.

Let’s empower ourselves with knowledge and proactive health choices. Your health is your power – embrace it!
