The Legendary W196

The Mercedes-Benz W196 was one of the most advanced and successful Formula One racing cars of the 1950s. Developed by Mercedes-Benz for the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons, it featured innovative technology such as mechanical direct fuel injection and desmodromic valve operation, giving it a significant performance advantage over its rivals. Driven by legendary racers such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, the W196 won 9 of the 12 races it entered and secured consecutive World Drivers' Championships in 1954 and 1955. The car was produced in both streamlined and open-wheel versions, with the streamlined "Monza" bodywork designed for high-speed circuits. Its remarkable success established the W196 as one of the greatest Grand Prix cars in motorsport history and helped cement Mercedes-Benz's reputation for engineering excellence.
