Suzanne Marie Cope
April 7, 1980-May 28, 2026
Suzanne Marie Cope, our beloved daughter, was born April 7, 1980, to Richard Cope and Jane Storey Cope. Suzanne passed away on May 28, 2026, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2025. She was very private about her disease and her struggles with it. She fought the good fight.

Suzanne is survived by her mother Jane Ellen Storey Cope and partner Danny, and father Richard J. Cope Jr. and wife Debra Legge-Blair Cope, and her fiancé Ryan Perry.

Suzanne had the good fortune of being born into a very large family with six aunts and uncles who loved her dearly: Michael Storey (Benny). Mary Anne Foster (Tom), Molly Truitt (Noal), Susan Storey Cutaia (Louis), Kelly Storey, Joanna Perkins (Terry). She has eleven cousins: Eileen, James, Clay, Emily, Amy, Kate, Beth Anne, Drew Mark, Erin and Barrett who became her playmates as they all grew up together and shared many a family holiday with her grandparents Lillian and Jim Storey.

Her father, Rick Cope, married Debra Legge-Blair Cope and Suzanne gained three stepbrothers and their wives who loved her dearly: Jason Legge (Andrea) and their children, Jerred Legge (Sheila), and Justin Legge (Lauren) and their children. They also shared holidays and memorable vacations together that gave Suzanne beautiful memories and the feeling of being loved and cherished.

Suzanne was a determined, intelligent, adventurous, and an athletic girl who loved hiking, skiing, river rafting, playing soccer on the very first girls soccer team at Friendswood High School as a midfielder. Her team made the playoffs with the help of the girl’s coach Ms. Peters. She also has a white-water rafting license and was a ski instructor. She loved spending time hiking with her dad and stepmom in Colorado. Also riding horses with her family on Mr. Hollingsworth farm in Schulenberg, Texas. Her dad loved his “Roo”. His memories of traveling with her will always be treasured by him and her stepmom.

Suzanne and her mom traveled to many exciting places on a Mediterranean cruse with Grandma Cope. Jane and Suzanne visited Scotland, Ireland, and England. These beautiful memories will be held in her mom’s heart always. A lasting bond was created between them traveling with her “muffin” was Jane’s greatest joy.

After high school graduation, she attended Southern Methodist University, which was her dads, Alma Mater. She was a member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority. She transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Journalism, and then went to work for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver until the paper closed.

Suzanne earned her teaching certificate and began her career at Burbank Middle School in HISD. Later she transferred to Spring Brand ISD, and then Fort Bend ISD. She followed in her mothers’ footsteps by becoming a teacher. She loved her students and could tell the funniest classroom antics she has to handle with some of the rowdy students. She also went on to teach in Spain and China and lived in France for a short time. She was definitely a wanderlust with her free spirit and tremendous curiosity.

Our entire family owes a great deal of love and appreciation to Ryan Perry, her fiancé. He was by her side for every need. He tirelessly cared for Suzanne with cooking, doctor visits, and loving companionship. He was her rock with very broad shoulders to help her carry her burden. No one could have done more, and he has a very special place in our hearts and will always be considered a part of our families. God bless you, Ryan. You will forever be remembered as her dedicated loving partner and friend.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to aunt Susu (Susan), her sweet cousin James Storey, and Erin Perkins Satsky. Erin went into super RN mode! She was able to arrange hospice care in a matter of hours. She’s an angel who brought comfort and needed care to Suzanne and her family during this incredibly difficult time of deep sorrow

Also, Patty and Tommy O’Connell, for the solace and comfort extended to Rick and Deb. True and faithful friends who are always available to help in any way possible.

Suzanne’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546. Visitation will be at 12:00PM, with the funeral mass at 1:00 PM. There will be a reception in the church hall directly after the mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to the SPCA or The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choosing.
