Solar fun fact:

The best way to measure how much you're paying for solar is to calculate how much you’re being charged per watt installed.

To calculate your cost per watt, simply divide the total price of the system by the system size.

So, if you pay $22,500 for a 6000W system then you are paying $3.75 per watt (22500/6000). The 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit reduces the price to $15,750.

National solar installation companies charge up to $5.25 per watt installed in order to fund their top-heavy management structure, meaning they’re selling the same 6000W system for $31,500, with an after tax credit price of $22,050.

Companies like SolarCity and SunRun are run by executives who count on their customers not understanding what they are buying and how much they’re being overcharged. If you buy a 6000W system from one of these companies it’ll cost you an extra $7,000!

Some will even claim to be premium companies using premium equipment, but in many cases they are using solar panels and equipment used by every other installer.

The cost of solar panels has dropped significantly over the past decade, but these companies continue to charge prices that can earn up to $25,000 profit on a system that costs less that $6,000.

The promise of renewable energy is to provide your family with clean energy while saving money.

Don’t fall into a financial trap set by some of the greediest companies in the solar industry.
