The first day of the NFL Draft kicked off on this date in 1999 with the Dallas Cowboys making three selections. The best of the bunch turned out to be a third-round inside linebacker out of Texas A&M, Dat Nguyen. Though perhaps a little undersized at 5-11, 238, he went on to lead the defense in tackles three times and is still 16th in franchise history with 665 team-credited takedowns. As Bill Parcells once said, Nguyen was a "football-playing dude."

On this day in 1938, Don Meredith was born. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and the 1966 Bert Bell Award winner, which led to his eventual induction into the Cowboys' famed Ring of Honor. Of course, as the first face of the franchise, he was perhaps even better known for his larger-than-life personality. The great Dandy Don!
