Did you know that your nail tech can sometimes detect health issues before your doctor can? It’s true! Our nails tell a lot about what’s going on internally. Abnormalities in structure, color and even strength can indicate systemic issues, nutritional deficiencies, and even cancer!

This is one of my thumb nails,(we look and we don’t judge, it’s been a high anxiety week!) those horizontal ridges are called beaus lines. These are typically present in people who have autoimmune issues, uncontrolled diabetes, psoriasis and a bunch of other conditions. If you have been with me for awhile, you know we have been on the path to a diagnosis for my chronic issues.. and we are getting closer! Sometimes “invisible” illnesses are more visible than we realize.

While I cannot diagnose any conditions, if I see something concerning, I can tell you to follow up with your primary care provider, thankfully I have only had to do that a handful of times in my 10 years in the industry. This is another perk of having a well educated nail tech, it’s more than just making nails pretty :)
