There are a lot of myths in the long range shooting world that seem to be holding on for reasons unknown. As an instructor, I hear these myths repeated over and over again.

Here are some of my favorites:

1) More humidity equals greater air density.

Absolutely not. That's the opposite of physics.

2) A .308 is an 800 yard cartridge.

Absolutely not. What happens at 801 yards? The kinetic energy of a 175gr SMK at 1500ish yards is similar to that of a 9mm 124gr HST at point blank.

3) You have to spend twice the money on the optic as you did the rifle.

Absolutely not. If you believe this, you haven't looked through an Arken Optics USA EP5 5-25X56. The EP5 is absolutely one of my favorite optics on the market. At less than $600, it outperforms other optics available at twice the cost.
