I found elk everywhere. Three new units and managed to get close in every one! I see my friends finding success and can’t be happier for them. My day will come but for now the wilderness solo and with my dude gives more than it takes. Congrats to everyone who got after it. Multiple 13 hour days really tells you who you are and I’m good…. To exist in the anonymous.

The outdoorsman can be of another dimension. Both alive and teetering in between the seen and the anonymous. Worn and torn from the mts that never relent. Gone to those who don’t see him, which is all. Momentarily gone to himself and the world. In a place that matches death and the most alive. His eye flicker, blink, hazy. The breeze and grass in the breeze and the leaves in the breeze and his children, and whispers from his wife, and whispers from his dad who is no longer of this life, and the ambitions he stuffed to the bottom of everything…they all woke him, slowly, as it should be there and everywhere. And he laced up his boots and took more than a moment to muster the energy he would need to get back to the place that says it’s cares but never teaches, says it loves but only with conditions. And he goes. And he takes only the dirt under his nails, the blisters on his feet, and some pictures to share, and some snapshots that are only for him. And they will only live in him because some things aren’t for this world. And they’ll never delete, and you can’t just pull them up. They come to you when your soul knows you need to be back there, maybe for the last time.

After coaching the morning sessions at our new gym out here in Fruita I headed up to Colorado National Monument to see how the natural world was waking up. Let’s just say nature is better than coffee! Even got a little help with some light edits from my photographer sis !
