Fulshear Branch Library - FBCL

Join us every Monday (10:00-11:00 am) at the Fulshear Branch Library for a morning of word searches, crosswords, and sudoku! Registration is not required.

Join us on Thursday, July 16, at 3 pm, for our Graphic-Novel Bash! Enjoy activities such as creating your own graphic novel and button making! This program is for kids entering grades 4-8 only. Space is limited. Free tickets will be available at the youth information desk 45 minutes before the program. Materials are provided by the Friends of the Fulshear Branch Library.

Join us for story time this week (July 13, 14, and 15) at the Fulshear Branch Library! We have several programs geared toward different age levels. This week's theme is Cook up a Story!

Pajama Night Story Time (for all ages) takes place on Mondays at 6 pm.

Toddler Time (for children 1-3 years old) takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:15 am and on Wednesdays at 11:15 am.

Preschool Story Time (for children 3-6 years old) is on Tuesdays at 11:15 am.

Please note that all story time programs require a ticket for entry. Free tickets are available 45 minutes before story time at the youth information desk. Space is limited.

🍽️ Come join us for Fulshear Foodies, our community's potluck and cookbook book club, on July 13, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, at the Fulshear Branch Library!

This month's theme is American Classics!

🍽️ We'll share recipes we've tried this month and explain the dishes we've brought to the meeting, exchanging recipes and cooking tips we've garnered during our culinary experience!

🍽️ Check out our cookbook collection for inspiration. Disposable dishes and cutlery, take-home plates, and serving utensils will be provided. Exposed heating elements are not allowed. No registration is required.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our recently retired colleague, Jill Sumpter, who, for 29 years, poured her dedication, compassion, and genuine love for our community into our library system and into us.

Her legacy and our priceless memories with her will continue to inspire us at Fort Bend County Libraries.

During her tenure, Jill fulfilled several roles, starting at the Missouri City Branch Library as a librarian before becoming the first branch manager at the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library. Soon after, she was promoted to technology coordinator for the library system, where she handled the helm as the system evolved to keep pace with an increasingly tech-driven society.

She also notably earned the Texas Library Association’s Tall Texan title for her commitment to the library system, her position, and the community.

Under her leadership, the library system remained at the forefront of a constantly evolving era, assuring Fort Bend County residents had access to the technological tools they needed to compete in an ever-changing, digitized world.

During her time as technology coordinator, 3D printers were introduced, RFID technology was implemented throughout the library system, free WiFi was introduced at all locations, mobile WiFi hotspots were added to the collection, and self-checkouts were implemented at most locations.

Jill was also pivotal in establishing many behind-the-scenes protocols that were never seen or known by the public; nevertheless, those protocols made the public’s use of the online catalog, computers, Internet, and the many online library services possible.

Aside from her professional contributions, Jill will be remembered for her passion for singing in the church choir, love of baseball and football, and the joy she experienced traveling with her husband.

Her dedication, veracity, and company will be greatly missed.
