Energetic hazardous wastes or “waste explosives” include waste that has the potential to detonate such as munitions, consumer fireworks, hobby rockets, flares and even airbag propellants. These items may be hazardous to human health and the environment due to their ignitability, toxicity and/or reactive nature. We hope you had a very happy and safe 4th of July! If you have any leftover, damaged or undetonated fireworks; please bring them to one of the six Alachua County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers.

Used fireworks should be soaked in water overnight, placed in a plastic bag, and put in the trash for regular collection. Thank you!

Juneteenth Curbside Collection and Solid Waste Schedule

Residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling, and yard trash will not be affected by the Juneteenth holiday on Friday, June 19th, 2026. In addition, the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station and the Hazardous Waste Collection Center will be open during regularly scheduled hours on Friday. All Rural Collection Centers will be closed on Friday.

The Office of Waste Collection will be closed on Friday, June 19th, and will resume its normal schedule on Monday, June 22nd.
