What are the symptoms of glaucoma? It is not uncommon for there to be no symptoms with the onset of glaucoma. Peripheral vision is commonly affected, but it usually requires a dilated eye exam by an optometrist, including a test of eye pressure, to decide if glaucoma is present.
If your scheduled eye exam requires that we dilate your pupils, we will notify you in advance so you can make arrangements. You will need to wear dark glasses for a short while afterwards and you may need someone to drive you home.
It’s important to remember that not all contact lenses are designed with extended wear in mind. If you know that you’ll likely forget to take out your lenses each night, it’s a good idea to buy breathable contacts that are made for people to wear overnight.
Contacts need to soak at least six hours to rehydrate properly. If you’re just lounging, switch to glasses and let your contacts take a break.
While the annual eye exam is often sufficient for most people, there are times when it’s wise to schedule more frequent appointments. If you experience eye pain, swelling or hazy vision, come see us as soon as possible.
