4688 Racing

We want to give a huge shout out to Jeremy Purick and Rock Krawler Suspension for saving our 2024 King of the Hammers race. During qualifying there was a rock hidden on the left that everyone was hitting and damaging their cars. We knew the rock was there but our GPS showed it a little further than it actually was. So we proceeded to blast the rock with our left front tire at speed. This impact snapped the tie rod end off inside the knuckle and twisted the knuckle where the tie rod end is located, effectively ending our qualifying run and limiting our chances of being able to repair it with a just a fresh tie rod end. Jeremy stepped up and had a solution, he had a new tie rod overnighted from NY with special ends so we could drill out the taper and run bolt on tie rod ends. This would have been an easy repair but our steering knuckle was twisted and the angle was making the new joints bind up. So our solution was a lakebed fix. We found a vendor on the lakebed that was selling nuts, bolts and misc hardware. I don't know their name but we really hope they will be there every year. We were able to get some large misalignment spacers, cut them down and grind away the base. This allowed us to drill out the knuckle and insert the spacer at the angle we needed and weld them in place with our Karnage Welder. With our new tie-rod in place were were able to run our race and finished in 6th place out of 50+ competitors. Not only does Rock Krawler Suspension supply us with all of our suspension components, they also support us at main camp and in the pits.
