🚨 WEATHER ALERT: TORNADO WATCH 🚨
The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 313, in effect until 9:00 PM CDT / 10:00 PM EDT this evening (June 11, 2026) for Kane County and surrounding areas.
⚠️ Understanding Weather Alerts: Watch vs. Warning
Please review the difference between these two alerts so you know exactly what to do if the weather worsens later today:
CURRENT STATUS: TORNADO WATCH (Be Prepared)
This means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop over the next few hours. A tornado is not occurring right now. Use this time to review your safety plans, check supplies, and monitor local weather.
FUTURE SCENARIO: TORNADO WARNING (Take Action)
This alert is NOT currently in effect for our area. However, IF a warning is issued later, it means a tornado has actually been sighted or indicated by radar. You must immediately move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
🔊 Essential Safety Step: Have 2 Ways to Get Alerts
Severe weather can move in quickly. Make sure you have at least two separate ways to receive official warnings, including at least one method that is loud enough to wake you up if you are asleep:
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA): Keep your cell phone turned on with emergency/safety alerts enabled in your settings. These produce a high-volume tone that overrides "Do Not Disturb" modes.
NOAA Weather Radio: A dedicated public safety radio with an audible siren alarm is the most reliable way to be awakened indoors during a nighttime storm.

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our area to level 4 out of 5 risk for severe weather today. Before sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts today.
