Our next grant winner is Ms. Purcell, fourth grade teacher at Fabyan Elementary School. Funds were requsted to provide students with flexible seating options in their classrooms. Ms. Purcell writes, "The students are more motivated to work collaboratively and for independent reading. Flexible seating allows students to have choice in their seating for independent and collaborative learning opportunities. When students are more motivated to learn, they are more successful in the classroom.
Peer collaboration is an essential skill for students to develop as this impacts their academic and social emotional learning and growth. Increasing reading stamina through independent reading strengthens and builds essential reading skills including fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development."
