This piece explores the rituals of Black girlhood—The portrait speaks to the quiet hurt of growing up with “nappy” hair in a world that didn’t see it as beautiful. It reflects the mornings filled with frustration, the combs, the sighs, the braids too tight and the feeling of never having "good hair" The close up on the face captures the emotion often hidden

It explores how love and pain were both passed down through hair, how older generations tried to protect us through grooming, not knowing the damage their words and hands could leave behind.
