Thoroughbred Broodmare Farm

Throughout the course of history, religion and mythology, the white horse has been a powerful symbol of purity and a link to heavenly redemption. The key ideas connected to the notion of unicorns were an association with grace and Christ himself and that they could magically heal in ways equal to their stunning beauty.

Even today, far from the forests of the Middle Ages where unicorns once roamed through literature, gray and white Thoroughbreds are often beloved on racetracks around the world for their enchanting presence.

Here at Summer Wind, Jane Lyon's "unicorns" -- the pale gray mares in the broodmare band, all of whom have close and elite connections to champions or G1 winners -- dazzle us daily.

Today on this Memorial Day , the spotlight falls on the gray Krissy's Candy (Candy Ride), dam of G1 winner Nutella Fella (Runhappy) among her 3 winners from 3 starters to date.

Krissy's Candy is a big-boned, rather sassy individual who is not averse to stirring up life in the fields when she so chooses. She doesn't much like to be idle and seems to be working on passing along this strong personality to to her c**t by born on April 27.

Among their pranks earlier this month, prior to hot weather and then long stretches of rain in Kentucky, was a purposeful rousing of Flightline's mother Feathered (Indian Charlie) and her c**t by Tapit as that pair rested peacefully in bluegrass dappled by sunlight. Krissy's Candy spotted them from across the field and decided they were far too quiet, and -- with her c**t in complete lockstep against her side -- strode forcefully over to Feathered and her foal, waking them unceremoniously from their nap.

While she didn't push the mild confrontation any further as no one messes with Feathered, she and her son did look a bit pleased with themselves as they turned and sauntered away.

Krissy's Candy's c**t is currently a deep reddish hue, quite striking, especially against his freckled gray mother, but there are silver hairs in his coat indicating he will transform into a unicorn himself.

There already is magic in this pedigree as Krissy's Candy's third dam produced champion sprinter Housebuster.

Her second dam, Dreamscape (Mt. Livermore), produced multiple stakes winner Tax Refund (Artax) and stakes winner Sophia's Song (Bellamy Road). The latter was sold to Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm for $1.35 million in 2023 after producing MGSW Booth (Mitole), who has earned $993,161 to dat; MGSW and G1 victor Bright Future (Curlin), and earner of $947,950 and now a stallion at Claiborne Farm, and G1-placed G2 winner Musical Mischief (Into Mischief), who banked $519,276.

Krissy's Candy, who delivered a filly by Not This Time at Summer Wind in 2025 after being acquired the previous year at the Keeneland November sale, has been bred back to Flightline for 2027.

Sundays are the best days, offering the world a time for rest, reflection and gratitude for all that is around us.

These two filly foals clearly are grateful for their friendship and the life they are leading in a quiet field tucked in the middle of Summer Wind. As they sweetly touch noses, as if in a tender childhood kiss, they also have much to be proud of in their immediate families.

On the left is the daughter of Coal Front and Lailoni (Brethren) who is the half sister to 6-time stakes winner Mythical (St Patrick's Day) and on the right is the daughter of McKinzie and Solarri (Malibu Moon), whose dam is a half sister to GSW Mohawk Trail (Pioneerof the Nile) and who is out of a half sister to the dam of twice champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive.

With lots to talk about, these two also share bright futures.

From shy foal to bold stakes winner -- we are celebrating homebred HOW ABOUT NOW right now as Summer Wind's newest stakes winner!

By Not This Time of Taylor Made Farm and out of A Star Is Born (Galileo), How About Now -- a maiden special weight winner at Keeneland in April for trainer Rusty Arnold -- put all her talents on display today in the $150,000 Cleopatra Handicap at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Ridden with confidence by Axel Concepcion (and we thank him for his kind words in the post-race interview as well as his skills in the saddle), How About Now broke a bit awkwardly, as the race chart notes and raced 7th of 10 early.

From there, however, Concepcion and the dark bay/brown filly saved ground until the stretch run, where she was boldly sent between rivals and boldly accepted the command.

Bursting to the lead, How About Now drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths while covering the mile on a turf course rated firm in 1:37.12. Especially considering that the field contained well-bred runners owned by the likes of Coolmore, Qatar Racing, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and others, How About Now has taken a big step forward in her 5th career start. Her earnings now total $154,709.

How About Now also becomes the second stakes winner for her dam, who also has produced Group 1-placed stakes winner Fleet Review (War Front) and the 11-time Japanese winner Dual Career (War Front).

It's also exciting that Summer Wind already has a pair of winsome siblings to How About Now in the farm's broodmare band: In the Shallows (War Front), who has a c**t at her side by and is back in foal to the undefeated champion, and Memory Road (Quality Road), who has a yearling c**t by champion Up to the Mark (Not This Time) and is among the first mares in foal to Summer Wind's Triple Tap (Tapit), the half brother to Triple Crown victor American Pharoah.

We are all about How About Now's big win today! Cheers to all connections and to her family, equine and human.

In the quiet first minutes of Mother's Day, not long after midnight as darkness blanketed Kentucky, the miracle of life blazed brightly under the barn lights, deep in the straw.

Park Avenue (Quality Road), as mare as lovely and well-bred as her name implies and a graded stakes-placed stakes winner and direct female descendant of the mother and sister of Triple Crown winner Assault, delivered her third foal in the best celebration we could hope for on behalf of all the broodmare mothers at Summer Wind.

The newborn filly by , a full sister to the promising 2yo c**t Powerline and to his handsome yearling brother, arrived in divinely-made beauty, a rich bay with white splashed on both front legs and one hind leg as well as a shining star on her forehead.

She is the 5th foal who has arrived in a baby blitz at Summer Wind just since the Kentucky Derby was run on May 2. Each one is special gift, reminding us of the sanctity and blessing of life itself and all that may be yet to come.

Happy Mother's Day to all who nurture and cherish life, who care for the young through the sacrifices and rewards, and who give us all the chance for a better future because of their love.

Did you feel the earth rumble this morning in Lexington, Kentucky?

A special kind of POWERLINE took off at Keeneland, speeding like a bullet.

The 2yo c**t bearing that robust name and from the first crop by recorded the second timed work of his young life today and it was notable: 3f in :35.20, earning the bullet designation as fastest of 25 horses that worked at the distance, most of whom are also unraced juveniles.

Bred by Summer Wind and Sarah S. Farish from the GSP, stakes-winning mare Park Avenue (Quality Road), Powerline has been at the top of his class since birth. A striking foal, he matured into a $1.8 million yearling at Saratoga in 2025, when John Oxley and West Point Thoroughbreds stepped forward to acquire him.

West Point reports on its website that Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen is the trainer of Powerline, so we are ever more hopeful for the c**t's future.

A number of the other members of Flightline's first crop that were bred at Summer Wind also have been advancing on in their young lives.

PARDEN, the 2yo Summer Wind-bred c**t out of GSW Proud Emma (Include), has logged two timed workouts so far for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott at Payson Park Training Center in Florida. His second move also earned a bullet as the big bay went 3f in :37.60 (1/4) on April 30 at that facility.

Purchased for $800,000 by West Point with Vinnie Viola's St. Elias Stables, the latter co-owner of Kentucky Derby victor Golden Tempo, Parden is -- just like Powerline -- the first foal of his dam. Both mares have produced full brothers to the juveniles, and both those c**ts are now yearlings at Summer Wind.

Meanwhile, a filly by Flightline out of MGSW & Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint runner-up Edgeway (Competitive Edge), who was bred by Summer Wind in partnership with Hronis Racing, has been named ON EDGE. She turned in her first timed workout on April 30 at Santa Anita Park for trainer John Sadler, who conditioned both her parents, going 1f in :12.80 (1/2).

Another filly, bred by Summer Wind out of the stakes-winning Candy Ride mare Analyze, has been working progressively for Bill Mott at Payson while turning in four timed drills so far, with the most recent on May 1. Of those four, the still unnamed filly has fired bullets in three, including a 3f drill in :37.20 (1/16) on April 22.

Among other offspring by Flightline that have already recorded timed works are:

HOUSE BOAT PARTY, a filly out of MG1 winner & $4.7 million earner Hoppertunity's unraced half sister Lake Garda (American Pharoah), who has turned in 4 drills to date at Churchill Downs including a 4f move on May 4 in :46.80 (3/31);

CLEAR FOR TAKEOFF, a filly out of G1 winner Noted and Quoted (The Factor) sold for $575,000 as a yearling to a partnership including West Point, Belladonna Racing and Woodford Racing and now in the barn of Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Cherie DeVaux, who worked 3f at Keeneland on April 19 in :37.80. DeVaux also has been assigned West Point's DREAM FLIGHT, the Flightline half sister to MGSW Barnes (Into Mischief) and a $1.1 million Saratoga yearling;

GO FOR LAUNCH, a filly bred by Blue Heaven Farm (also breeder of Japan's Kentucky Derby runner Danon Bourbon) from Canadian MG1 winner Starship Jubilee (Indy Wind). Go for Launch worked 2 furlongs in :25 over the all-weather track at Woodbine on April 30, and

DALLAS STAR, a c**t bred by Stonestreet out of G1 winner Tara's Tango (Unbridled's Song) and thus a half brother to G3 Virginia Derby winner Capensis (Tapit), who went for his first timed drill on Kentucky Derby day, May 2, at the WinStar Training Center. The $900,000 yearling, bought by WinStar, China Horse Club and First Go Racing, went 3f in :38.40.

While most of the Flightline juveniles are in North America or Japan, three are in the catalog for the May 9 Arqana breeze-up sale at Deauville. Leading the way by lot number is No. 60, a filly out of stakes winner Miss Mosaic (Verrazano), a half sister to MG1 winner Miss Temple City (Temple City) and GSW Pricedtoperfection (Temple City). She is consigned by C. F. Bloodstock and Cormac Farrell posted on X that he is "looking forward to offering this exciting filly" who "has done nothing but please in her prep." See her move in this quick video from his post: https://x.com/i/status/2049592819178697093

Of course, it goes without saying that all in the racing world are waiting for future developments for the $10.5 million juvenile from the OBS April sale, the son of Flightline out of GSP multiple stakes winner Lucrezia (Into Mischief) now named Zedan (after owner Amr Zedan's father). The c**t is with Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert in California.
