Mary Atmar Johnson was one of the dedicated community volunteers who alongside members of the medical profession, helped bring a vision to life, a comprehensive program offering care, comfort, and support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. Thanks to these inspiring grassroots efforts, Tidelands Community Hospice was licensed in March 1985 as one of the first nonprofit hospices in South Carolina.

To honor Mary and our founding members, and to carry forward their legacy of compassion and commitment, the Mary Atmar Johnson Scholarship was created.

Each year several $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students pursuing (or planning to pursue) careers in nursing or social work.
