Installation Tip from the Field: Always Use 6-mil Plastic Over Concrete

SPC flooring became widely popular about 10 years ago, and in the early years many brands and installers didn’t yet have long-term experience with the product.

Today, after millions of square feet installed, the industry has learned an important lesson:

USE 6 MIL POLYETHYLENE PLASTIC

Even if the concrete looks dry, moisture can slowly move through the slab and reach the flooring. Over time this can lead to issues such as:

• damaged locking systems
• floor movement or separation
• mold or odor under the floor

A simple solution is installing 6-mil polyethylene plastic over the concrete before installing SPC flooring. This v***r barrier helps block moisture and protect the floor.

Even if some brands say it is optional, we still recommend using it whenever installing SPC over concrete.

It’s a small step that can help prevent big problems later.
