We should allow our pets to engage in natural behaviors in our very unnatural human environments, just as we would for a wild animal in captivity. Do you ever wonder why your dog gets so excited when you come home? A big part of the reason is that modern dogs don’t get out much! Human homes and lifestyles these days are pretty barren of sensory input, especially for animals as active as dogs. If you spent 90% of your time in one place, with no jobs to do, you might get a little overexcited when someone came home, too! Instead of trying to train your dog to not get excited with greetings, why not accept your dog as they are, given the life we’ve given them, and enjoy having someone love you so much!
