Meet Fishmonger T, a true legend of the seafood world. Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, she doesn’t just work with fish—she embodies them. With sea salt in her veins and a knife-hand as steady as a ship’s keel, T has spent over 18 years filleting, trimming, and expertly preparing seafood, earning a reputation for unmatched precision and skill. Her signature laugh, rolling across the market, is as much a part of her legend as her mastery of the blade, making her a beloved fixture behind the counter.

A Capricorn through and through, T is determined, grounded, and fiercely dedicated. Her knife skills are razor-sharp, honed by decades of hands-on experience, but there’s a playful side too—she’s owned a monkey, a scorpion, and two tarantulas, proof of an adventurous streak that matches the boldness of her career.

When it comes to fish, T swears by Triggerfish—a tough, bony, and uniquely flavorful species that demands respect in prep but rewards handsomely on the plate. “Triggerfish are tough, tasty, and just weird enough to be lovable. Kind of like me,” she says, with a grin that reflects her personality as much as her craft.

People come to the market for the day’s catch, but they stay for T. Her presence behind the counter is more than service; it’s a masterclass in craftsmanship and charm, a mix of expertise, humor, and storytelling. Once you meet Fishmonger T, you won’t soon forget her—or the experience of shopping at her side.

Since 1956, Zora’s Seafood Market has been a Castle Street staple, serving fresh local catch with warmth, flavor, and community spirit. From boiled shrimp and crispy fried fish to fresh fillets and feisty crabs, it’s where locals and visitors gather for great seafood and good vibes. Chef Dean Neff purchased Zora’s in 2024, to keep the oldest seafood market in Wilmington in operation.

Zora’s Market & Kitchen is located at 1411 Castle Street in Wilmington, NC.
