June To Do List for Lawn & Garden
🌸 For Caterpillars
Use Dipel dust or BT spray.. biological insecticides that target caterpillars only, sparing birds and beneficial insects like bees and butterflies. Safe and powerful.
🐞 For Aphids
Why spray every 7-14 days when you can release Ladybugs once and let them do the work for you? They feast on aphids, small worms, and insect eggs all season long!
🌱 In the Soil: Beneficial Nematodes
These microscopic warriors live in your soil for up to two years, attacking hard-to-control pests like cutworms, white grubs, and sod webworms. They're a low-maintenance, high-reward alternative to chemical pesticides.
☀️ Watering: It’s heating up! Water deeply early in the morning to avoid evaporation and fungal issues. Avoid watering in the evening.
Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
🌼 Deadheading: Keep flowers blooming by trimming spent blooms on annuals and perennials.
🌿 Plant Now: It’s still a good time to plant heat-loving veggies like okra, sweet potatoes, and southern peas. Also, plant zinnias, cosmos, and vinca for color all summer.
🐝 Pollinator Support: Add native flowering plants to attract bees and butterflies. Avoid spraying anything harmful while they’re active!
🫑 Veggie Garden: If you have already put in your first crop of the season, you may be harvesting some cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, etc. If you are ready to plant a fresh crop, here are some ideas: watermelon, sweet potato, okra, peppers, & tomatoes.
