Hope Arising

Dignity isn’t something we give.

It’s something we protect.

We define it this way: the inherent, inalienable worth and value that every person possesses simply by being human.

But definitions only go so far.

At a recent skills training in Ethiopia, one of our sponsorship students stood up in front of her peers and said something we haven’t stopped thinking about. In Amharic. Without hesitation.

“I am a good student. I won’t miss church. I will not be late for school. I forgive. I will not back down from what I believe in. I will not lose hope.”

She already knew her worth.

That’s what Hope Arising exists to build.

Somewhere between the work, there was this.

The Maasai Mara. Elephants. Giraffes. Zebras. Lions. A cheetah. A hyena. A marabou stork doing absolutely nothing gracefully. And then the sun went down over the Mara and creation had nothing left to prove.

Kenya will do that to you.
