Congratulations to Emmanuel for winning the 2024 Nicholas Peppas Medallion Award!

Congratulations to Emmanuel Aboagye for receiving the Nicholas A. Peppas Sc.D. Medallion for Excellence in Doctoral Studies. Emmanuel is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate under Professor Christos Maravelias in Princeton University's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He focuses on synthesizing and analyzing novel biomass-to-biofuel and chemical strategies. Emmanuel earned his Ph.D. from Rowan University in chemical engineering, where he delved into EPA and industry-funded projects, emphasizing systems-level approaches to process sustainability under Dr. Kirti Yenkie's guidance. His work included solvent recovery for reuse, wastewater treatment network synthesis, and machine learning for emissions prediction.

Emmanuel's accolades include the 2008 Presidential Award for Best BECE Male Student in Ghana's Eastern Region, the 2021 Best Chemical Engineering Research, and the 2022 Sustainability Research Award from the Rowan University - Department of Chemical Engineering, as well as a 2023 AIChE Foundation Grant Award. He's judged undergraduate poster sessions at the 2022 and 2023 AIChE annual meetings, is active in professional associations like ACS, AIChE, NSBE, and NOBCChE, and has interned at Cargill. During his doctoral studies, he interned at Cargill, served as a teaching assistant, mentored over 20 undergraduates and interns, and engaged in K-12 outreach programs. His research interests include process and energy systems engineering, sustainability assessment, and machine learning.

Congratulations to Abigail Martin on earning the 2024 Irene Elizabeth Tracy Medallion award!

Congratulations to Abigail Martin for receiving the Irene Elizabeth Tracey Award for Excellence in Engineering. Abby graduated yesterday with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a minor in chemistry. During her time at Rowan, she has been extensively involved with the chemical engineering department in various capacities: as a lab technician student worker, an undergraduate researcher, and an executive board member of the AIChE student chapter.

In her role as a lab technician, Martin worked under the direction of Rob McClernan to redesign several undergraduate academic labs, enhancing the ChE curriculum. Her undergraduate research experiences included USDA-funded food decontamination research and Boehringer Ingelheim-funded crystallization research. She presented her USDA research at the 2023 AIChE regional conference and became a published co-author for this research in the ACS Omega journal. She is now set to begin her career as a process engineer at Crane Currency in Massachusetts. 📚 🎓🦉
