Look at this rescue! This countertop has been broken for a few years and the family had it held together with Gorilla Tape. We had discussed the job and I came up with the idea of using a very popular epoxy. It's not a perfect repair, but it looks a hell of a lot better than before.

The first two pics are a before and after. Then I'll show some of the steps.

Older homes don’t always play by modern rules 🔧

This week’s challenge:

Original front door with an extra-thick profile

New handle set ordered (including the extra-wide kit)

Spindle still too short to reach the interior k**b

After checking with manufacturers, the “right” solution meant buying a much more expensive handle set. Instead, we talked through options and found a safe, effective way to modify the existing hardware and make it work—no unnecessary replacement.

That’s problem-solving you only get with hands-on experience, especially in older Essex County homes.
