Photographer Lori Pond was given an Associates Award in Brand 54 for her haunting image, “Utah Winterscape.”

Pond believes, as many scientists do, “that not only are trees sentient beings, but they also communicate with each other via their root systems. They will divert resources to sick trees! I feel when I’m around them that I can communicate with them, too.”

She adds, “When I learned the art of hand-applying gold leaf to an image, I decided to honor the trees that I have been present with by celebrating their winter forms with gold leaf applied to the backs of my translucent vellum images.”

We hope you can see this image in person; it will be on view at Brand until August 28. Also, our handsome print catalog is available for purchase, as are most of the pieces of art in the show.

Brand Library & Art Center and the Brand Associates are pleased to present Brand 54: 54th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper. This year’s annual exhibition features 100 artworks from around the country. Juror Tracy Bartley, whose years of experience in contemporary fine art can be seen in her exciting choices, offers us an opportunity to explore the versatility of the paper medium.

Brand Associates is once again partnering with Alex Film Society on their 2026 Classic Film series on the Doctors House lawn in Brand Park this summer! All screenings are free of charge and open to the public. Please note the dates of the screenings below!

The Glendale Historical Society has partnered with the Alex Film Society once again for their 2026 Classic Film series on the Doctors House lawn in Brand Park.
