Lighthouse Literacy

Each February, from 2016-2019, I traveled to South Africa with Universal Promise (UP), a charitable organization dedicated to creating educational opportunities for children. I worked with students and teachers and learned far more than I taught. Then, the pandemic hit and traveling ground to a halt. I'm headed back in Feb 2025 though and excited to see the students, the teachers, and the wonderful new opportunities UP has helped create. The goal this year is to raise enough money to create a recreational area with fields and outdoor courts that can also serve as a safe community gathering area. My personal goal is to raise $1500. I don't know who needs to hear this, but summer reading is due next month. Make good use of read-alouds and audiobooks! Listening together in the car on those road trips can lead to some great conversations!
