Not every child who resists reading is being oppositional.

Sometimes they are overwhelmed.

This can be especially true for children who are neurodivergent, easily overstimulated, or already carrying a lot of frustration around reading.

What looks like refusal from the outside may feel like overload on the inside.

That is why calm structure matters.

“He seems to be doing well with it. I did notice he’s reading random things on his own now when we’re looking at stuff.” 🥹

That’s a BIG win.

Not because it’s flashy.
Because it’s real.

When a child starts reading on their own without being pushed, that’s often an early confidence breakthrough stage. And confidence changes everything.

That’s why we care so much about the little moments.
They usually mean the bigger transformation has already started.
