Here is my current book read, "Dead Wake" by Erik Larson.
This one is about the final voyage of the Lusitania in May 1915 by a German U-Boat. I am just really getting into it but have learned a bit so far. Of particular interest to me was the life and personality of Captain Turner who was in charge of the Lusitania. I also found it very interesting about life aboard a U-Boat in WWII.
If you ever saw the movie, Das Boot, it gives you an idea that life on a submarine was not very glamorous.
The submarines were very smelly due to diesel fumes and body odor. Crews could not take a shower for weeks at sea and the boats were hot and stuffy inside.
I also learned that the crews of some U-Boat would sometimes scavenge for food from Merchant vessels before they sank them.
I did very much enjoy "Devil in the White City" about the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 and learned a lot from that one as well.

I am now reading "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson.
This one is about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the trials and tribulations of constructing it and then getting people to come when it was completed. While that is going on, there was also a serial killer named Holmes that was causing many young women and occasionally a few men to disappear.
This is a true story. I am now over halfway through and find the story fascinating. Who would have thought that putting together a World's Fair would be so difficult.
This is my second Book by Larson. The first was "Demon of Unrest" about events leading up to the Civil War. That was excellent.
