This weekend’s violence in the Lowcountry is a sobering reminder that violence is never the answer. From the shocking attack on a North Charleston police officer to the tragic shooting that injured seven people at Coligny Beach on Hilton Head Island, these incidents underscore the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day and the challenges confronting our communities. I am grateful for the swift response of our local law enforcement agencies. Their courage, professionalism, and commitment to keeping our communities safe deserve our respect and support.

At a time when some continue to call for abolishing or defunding law enforcement, these events remind us why supporting the men and women who wear the badge is more important than ever. Safe communities depend on strong law enforcement, accountability for those who commit violent crimes, and leaders willing to stand with those who protect us.

As a lifelong Lowcountry resident, I will always Back the Blue. Please join me in praying for the injured, for the officers who put themselves in harm’s way, and for peace across the Lowcountry.
