The Hartman Institute has launched a bold new effort: to explore how Formal Axiology can become part of the very DNA of Generative AI.

Why? Because AI, as it stands today, lacks a universal foundation for valuing humanity. Without an ethical and moral compass, it risks amplifying harm instead of fostering good. As Geoffrey Hinton and others have warned, the consequences could be existential.

We believe that only Formal Axiology—with its scientific and mathematical grounding in value (I > E > S)—can provide the framework needed to guide AI toward supporting, protecting, and empowering human worth.

This is an urgent mission. And we can’t do it alone.

We’re assembling a team of volunteers—researchers, practitioners, leaders, and connectors—to help shape a comprehensive strategic plan. Your wisdom, energy, and expertise could play a vital role in bringing this vision to life.
