Check your trees for girdling roots! These result from improper planting and post serious challenge for the health and longevity of trees as they cut off nutrient supply by strangling other roots.

Off to a great start this week. Already encountered dutch elm disease, emerald ash borer, and spider mites on Hemlock… :(

I came across this vivid example of a decaying oak trunk! White rot (mostly) has broken down the lignin leaving behind the spongy tissue. You can also see the rays and xylem vessels, tiny perforation tunnels that transported water.

Finished our last oak pruning jobs of the season as we now enter warm weather!

The window is soon closing for Oak pruning. Sap-feeding beetles, which can carry oak wilt fungus spores, will become more active with warmer weather. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any tree questions or concerns!

This Black Walnut had the longest holding hinge I’ve encountered yet! Directional notched and felled a couple trees today with the help of a heavy duty GRCS. (Shout out to Justin at Monster Tree Service for letting us play with it!)

Had a unique opportunity to inspect the inside of a failed red oak trunk after old support cables snapped. It appears that the blue/black streaking results from a chemical reaction of the tannins and metal possibly leading to secondary fungal infection. My guess is the limb failed first causing shock load on the cables.

Finally got around to a DIY chipper box build! More capacity and easier clean up :)

Worked in a window of decent weather (38 and wintry mix) to finish a job in Ludington.
