July is Disability Pride Month, and at Comprehensive Therapy Center, we are celebrating loud and proud! 🎉

This month marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The national theme for 2026 is “The World Works Better With Us,” and we see the truth in that every single day right here in West Michigan.

At CTC, we operate with a CAN DO philosophy:
⭐ Celebrating All Neurodiversity &
⭐ Demolishing Obstacles!

Through clinical therapies, school partnerships, and summer programs, our mission is to ensure every child and adult with an ability difference has the tools they need to walk, talk, learn, and play. When our Grand Rapids community is fully inclusive, everyone wins. 💙

Let’s spend this month celebrating unique strengths and building a more accessible West Michigan together.

What a week! Week 2 of summer camp at Therapy & Fun / Therapy & Life Skills is officially in the books, and my heart is so incredibly full. ☀️⛺️

Yes, it was a hot one, but we survived the heat! 🔥 More importantly, everyone is transitioning beautifully into their schedules, finding their groove, and growing more familiar with the daily routine.

As I look back on the week, there are a few powerful moments I just have to share:

🌱 The Power of Connection: I personally witnessed a young volunteer learn firsthand about co-regulation and connection with one of our camp kiddos. It was a remarkably sweet moment that taught one of the hardest skills—staying grounded and present when a child is dysregulated. Seeing this young volunteer understand and recognize the impact of his calmness was a powerful reminder of how deeply we all need that kind of connection—a skill that many of us don't fully learn or appreciate until much later in life.

🙌 Stepping Up: On a day when we were short-staffed, our volunteers and staff didn't just step in—they stepped up. Seeing our youth go above and beyond was a true "awe" moment that gave me so much hope for our future.

💡 Leading by Example: Our incredible staff did phenomenal things with our camp kiddos this week, setting a beautiful example for our volunteers and littles alike. The peer-to-peer staff support was unmatched.

☕️ Caregiver Connection: Our Caregiver Connection Coffee Hour was absolutely beautiful. The room was overflowing with support, encouragement, and deeply felt "I see you" moments among our families.

It was a truly wonderful week at camp, and I already can't wait to see what next week brings! 🌟✨

📣 Big shoutout to our incredible volunteers! Before the camp fun kicked off yesterday, our team gathered for a morning huddle to dive into some amazing tips on using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.

A massive thank you to Sydney and Alex for leading an awesome in-service! They shared some fantastic strategies to help us ensure every single camper has a powerful voice this summer:

*Model, Model, Model: Use the device yourself while talking to the camper! Pointing to the symbols as you speak shows them how it's done without forcing them to respond right away.

*Embrace the Pause: Count to 10 in your head after asking a question. Processing language and navigating a device takes time—giving them space is everything!

Take a look at those sharp shirts our crew is rocking! We are so incredibly grateful to our amazing t-shirt sponsors for keeping our team looking unified and ready to roll:
