important catch: it only works if your information is up to date.

Microchips provide permanent identification that stays with your pet for life—but the contact details linked to that chip can quickly become outdated if they’re not checked regularly.

When a pet is found, shelters and veterinary teams rely on that information to reach you. But one of the most common reasons pets aren’t reunited with their families is missing or outdated microchip
information.

Take a moment to review your pet’s info:
✔️ Confirm which registry your pet’s chip is linked to (visit petmicrochiplookup.org)
✔️ Check that your address is current
✔️ Update your phone number
✔️ Review your emergency contact
✔️ Update info after adopting or rehoming a pet

• A microchip is not a GPS—it doesn’t track your pet
• Collars and tags can fall off—but a microchip stays with them for life
• Using both together gives your pet the best chance of being reunited with you
