Jude 1:20-21
But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

When Jesus ascended, he left his disciples to the work of spreading the gospel. Among Jesus’ original 12, there was an impostor; moving forward, the remaining 11 apostles knew that more impostors would inevitably appear among the church. This is what Jude wrote his letter about.

There are doctrines and ideas that run contrary to the gospel; these false teachings prove to be a true threat, misleading those who listen to them down a path that ends in spiritual death. Knowing this, a Christian would ask, “how can I protect myself from falling for false doctrine?”

Jude’s answer is simple; “build yourself up in your most holy faith,” becoming familiar with sound doctrine so that you aren’t fooled by lies. When the sheep truly know the one who loves them so much, their shepherd, they will be able to spot an impostor.
