Mars Desert Research Station crew 329. I’m returning after 12 years as commander of a 1 week crew with lots of station upgrades and field engineering research.
This is us meeting at the hotel in town. The cat belongs to the hotel (or vice versa) and she is named Luna.

This is a tracking and data relay system for simulated astronauts in the desert that logs where they are and sends it back to the main outpost. It works over a far greater distance than voice radios, so it's a key safety feature. I came up with the idea with the Mars Society team based on a mishap I had where I nearly got heatstroke WAY out of radio range of the hab. Systems like this can let any crew with line of sight on mountaintop relay send and SOS that includes their exact position. It can also be used to show where samples are taken when simulating research on Mars.

Here is the second talk for this year. The solar sail concept is interesting in itself, but it's more of a conduit for getting the technology revolution concept explained. I'm planning a book on that once I get a few other things worked out.
