If l could pick one superpower, I think it'd be
the power of perspective.
Don't get me wrong, flying and seeing into the
future are close seconds, but I just think that
over time those would turn from apparent
blessings into curses.
But how many times have I looked back at
a situation with the wisdom of having gone
through it and wished I had that perspective to
start off with? More times than I can count for
Sure.
With perspective, I would have saved the
years of heartache, trying (and failing) at
every diet imaginable, and realized that the
restriction and shame of inevitable failure
kept me trapped in a binge restrict cycle for
years and was the very thing that prevented
me from progressing in my weight loss.
More than that, it took the joy of the holidays
and events with family and friends and
replaced it with anxiety, fear, and shame for
eating the regular cookies versus the low
calorie or high protein "healthy" versions.
So friends, let me offer you the perspective of
what I've learned the last 3 years in my weight
loss journey:
-A single day, meal, or holiday season doesn't
matter in the grand scheme of things and |
don't remember what l've eaten the last two
years for the holidays
-Feeling deprived or restricted only served
to increase my bingeing- in order to stop the
bingeing, I had to stop the restriction
- The size of my body has never been
correlated with my happiness - my weight loss
did not unlock the secrets to self-satisfaction,
I had to find that separately
- The mental side of this journey is so much
harder than the physical, but it's the piece that
matters the most and is the most worth it
- It's not too late. You are not too far gone.
There is ALWAYS hope. You have the power to
change your life. You are enough.
The ultimate gift of perspective - knowing you
are enough. You have always been enough.
How to Protect Oneself From Germs?
Bacteria and viruses can be very contagious and make us ill.
No one like to be sick, so here are 5 things that will help you in your battle against germs!
1-Wash Your Hands:
Can’t say it enough! Hand Hygiene is the #1 way to prevent the spread of infection.
2-Respiratory Hygiene/Cough etiquette:
You should cover mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze with a tissue or in your elbow. If you did cover with your hand be sure to immediately wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or with an alcohol-based hand rub.
3-Injection Safety:
These are steps to ensure that one needle, one syringe are used only one time. Outbreaks of Hepatitis B and C have been associated with breaks in injection safety. Don’t hesitate to ask your provider if they understand injection safety and if the needle and syringe are only being used once!
4-Sanitize Your Surroundings: Always be sure to follow manufacturer instructions regarding cleaning products. Every product has a time frame that determines how long the “surface” must be wet in order to properly clean the surface. Some home products such as Clorox wipes require 4 minutes or longer. Don’t forget to protect your hands from these products as well!
5-ABC’s of Antibiotic:
We should all ask the following questions of our healthcare provider when prescribed an antibiotic
--Do I really need an antibiotic?
--Can I get better without this antibiotic?
--What side effects or drug interactions can I expect?
--What side effects should I report to you? How do you know what kind of infection I have as I understand antibiotics won’t work for viral infections?
