93°F outside. After just 19 minutes, our temperature sensor read a steady 132.5°F inside a parked vehicle.

This afternoon, we placed one of our vaccine fridge temperature sensors inside a team member's parked vehicle outside our clinic to see just how hot it would get. Nineteen minutes later, the sensor displayed a steady 132.5°F.

A parked vehicle can become dangerously hot much faster than many people realize-even with the windows cracked. At temperatures like these, pets can develop heatstroke in just minutes.

If you're running errands, the safest place for your pet is at home in the air conditioning.

Watch for signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting
• Bright red or pale gums
• Heavy drooling
• Weakness or stumbling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Collapse

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water if they're able to drink, and seek veterinary care immediately.
