Stephanie is a nurse and love the Lord. She was looking for a special way to express that and decided on an ANKLE TATTOO! It was her first tattoo, & she sat like a pro! This was such a fun appt, & I can’t wait to see her at the next. 🩷

The family has a bear theme and matching tattoos, but grandma wanted to be different. She decided to not match and to represent a special bond she has with her grandbabies. What a precious memory! I’m so blessed that she trusted me to do this piece.

Caryn decided to get this as her first tattoo. Right after she gave birth to Ollie, a photograph was taken of her holding his feet in her hands. It made a very sweet heart shaped picture. Caryn was originally expecting twins, but one baby stopped developing in the first trimester. Her baby boy, Ollie, spent the whole pregnancy with his feet pushing just to the right and below her naval, coincidentally in the same spot where one of her C-section scars would be. Caryn wanted that picture represented on her abdomen in the place where Ollie first made his presence known, and she wanted to include something for the other twin. She and Ollie decided on a smooth purple heart gem for his sibling, and the design was completed.
Caryn has been one of my besties for 31 years, & I’m so honored she let me make this piece happen for her. It was a great time with lots of catching up, laughs, memories, and new stories.

It’s been a busy and productive week! I’ve had a couple cover and refresh clients. I also did some permanent eyeliner, & tomorrow I’ll be doing a twisted Disney piece. I LOVE tattooing and the clients I see.

When the needle leaves ink under the skin, the immune system doesn’t know it’s body art, so it detects the substance as an alien invasion into the body. Immediately send to their front line of defense that are the macrophages. These giant white blood cells have a single mission, to devour strange agents (ink) to protect you.

When you get to the wound, you swallow the ink, but the problem is that the human body simply cannot digest those pigments, so the macrophage gets stuck with the ink, paralyzes and becomes lifeless in the act holding the color visibly.

But the process doesn’t end there. When that white blood is dead, the body sends a new one to clean the area. This newbie consumes his fallen partner along with the ink, also getting trapped. This happens one after another.

Knowing that wearing a tattoo means having your own biology working in an eternal loop to hold the color completely changes how we see body art.

This was discovered and demonstrated in 2018 by a team of immunologists from the Marseille-Luminy Center of Immunology, and officially published in the prestigious scientific journal Journal of Experimental Medicine.
