Yesterday, I received a message from a constituent who reached and shared this groups objective with me.

First, I want to say how incredibly thankful I am for this constituent and their passionate advocacy. She brought a fantastic initiative to my attention that is looking to directly assist the Berea community this August.

It is a massive Targeted Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project led by The Mickey and Mouse Project.

For those who aren’t familiar, The Mickey and Mouse Project is a local organization dedicated to ensuring a healthier, safer future for our community's pets. They actively manage pet overpopulation through their Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) programs, promote responsible pet ownership, and even run a "Mouse Fund" to provide essential veterinary care for qualifying pet owners.

Here is a breakdown of what their upcoming Berea project entails, and how it ultimately benefits all of us in Greenville County:

What is "Targeted TNR"?

Instead of a scattered, random approach across the whole county, they use a "Geographic Targeting" model. They identify the absolute highest-need "Hot Spot" and work to safely sterilize and vaccinate every single community cat possible there before moving on to the next location. Proven data shows that tackling the biggest problem areas fully is the absolute fastest way to stop the cycle of overpopulation everywhere.

Why Berea?

Thanks to reliable data from Greenville County Animal Care, Berea has been identified as our county's current major hot spot. The area is facing an immeasurable number of free-roaming cats, leading to a massive reproduction crisis. They simply have to put the biggest fire out first.

I know the free-roaming cat issue is a crisis county wide, and I completely understand why you might be upset if your area isn't the primary focus right now. But please know you are not forgotten! The faster The Mickey and Mouse Project finds success in Berea, the faster they can bring this targeted approach to your neighborhood.

How You Can Help Them Get to Your Area Faster

You don't have to wait for their team to arrive to make a difference. The Mickey and Mouse Project actively loans out traps to Greenville residents and teaches you how to safely practice TNVR yourself. Even fixing one cat at a time helps immensely!

If you want to help them succeed and expand, here is what you can do:

Get on their radar: Submit your neighborhood's community cat stats so they know exactly where to target next.

Spread the word: Share their mission on Facebook to help them gather more resources.

Donate: This massive project is incredibly costly. Every single dollar fuels their trap rentals, vaccines, and surgeries.

Volunteer: More hands on deck means they get the job done twice as fast.

Become a TNR pro: Attend one of their monthly workshops to learn the best tips and tricks!

I will put a link in the comments to their website, where you can learn, donate, and volunteer.

Let's support the people doing the hard work on the ground to make our county better.
