Drake Community Library is Looking for Teens to Participate in Statewide Trivia Competition on Wednesday Oct. 28th

The Drake Community Library Teens Team will face off against 18 other teams from public libraries across the state. The first Teen Battle of the Brains Statewide Smackdown is a virtual trivia competition to determine which teen group will reign supreme with the brawniest brains in Iowa.

The quiz bowl-style competition will test the team’s smarts in categories such as books, music, gaming, and more. The team crowned as champion will receive bragging rights and an official certificate signed by State Librarian Michael Scott commemorating the win.

The library is excited to offer area teens the opportunity to show their trivia skills to other teens in the state, remarked Youth Services Librarian Karen Neal.

The Smackdown is open to 13 to 18 year olds and there are still spaces available on the Drake Community Library team! If you are interested in participating virtually, contact Karen Neal, [email protected] for more information and to register. You must register ahead of time to receive information on how you’ll be able to participate the night of the Smackdown.

State Library of Iowa Youth Services Consultant Angie Manfredi will host and emcee the Smackdown, which starts at 6:30 p.m. The competition happens in conjunction with TeenTober, a new, nationwide celebration month created by the American Library Association to promote teen services and programs in libraries.

Teens can join the Teen Advisory Group to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban tomorrow night at 6:00! Pajamas or costumes welcome; snacks will be served!
