The Berger Road Daily Parade has ended.

Every day, Bonnie Blue Pooch would head out to enjoy her walks along Berger Road. She loved other animals β€” and other animals loved her β€” so it was always amusing to see which of the unruly creatures would run up to join her as we paraded down the road. One of my favorite things was to snap a photo of her on a walk with friends. Young James Virgil Harrison the Lamb would end up being the last bottle baby that she would mentor on the farm, after more than a decade of helping me look after newborns that needed help. She was smart, she was loving, she looked into your soul with her beautiful blue eyes, and she was my best friend.

While her tally of rallying newborn lambs & goats to survive was quite impressive, her greatest success was keeping me going. Bonnie was the reason I got out of bed even on the roughest mornings. She was the living being that shared my home & my bed for years, and her love was a balm no matter the wound. I will never be the same person I was before Bonnie, and the transition to a life without her is a rough one.

Bonnie Blue Harrison passed with grace & peace on her comfy bed in her farmhouse, surrounded by people who loved her. She had a remarkable journey. Despite the challenges of aging, she still loved people, walks, and treats until the very end. Bonnie only had one bad day, and it was on her timeline that we said goodbye. I take comfort in the idea that she is reunited with her best friend Augustus Pyrenees. Bonnie leaves an extraordinary legacy. She touched so many lives. It has been amazing to me to realize that very few people remember this farm without Bonnie. Or a Katherine without Bonnie.

Happy 1st Birthday to Esperanza! I never dreamed I would be celebrating this superstar’s birthday, AND sharing the amazing good news of her motherhood at the same time. One week ago today, Esperanza gave birth to beautiful twins: Bambi & Zane. She is flourishing as a mother, and I am tremendously proud (and relieved πŸ˜…).

Esperanza Katerina Bonita is an icon. She has more personality than most creatures, and she has trained me well to provide her desired quality of life. From tiny bottle baby, she has grown into the Queen of Shenanigans, and now a strong maternal force.

Want to meet Esperanza’s beautiful babies Bambi & Zane?
