Bayonet with Honors

We would like to take a moment to recognize the contributions our Chief of Staff, Col. Andrew Gallo, and our Deputy Commanding Officer for Support, Col. Todd Burroughs, have made to our division. It's difficult to overstate the impact these officers and their families have had on our formation — they will be missed, though we look forward to seeing what they bring to our Army in their next assignments.

76 years ago this month, North Korean forces crossed the 38th Parallel, launching an invasion that would thrust the Bayonet Division back into combat.

When war broke out in June 1950, the 7th Infantry Division answered the call — augmented with more than 8,000 Korean Soldiers and deploying across the Eastern Sea to meet the enemy head-on. That September, Bayonet Soldiers stormed ashore at Inchon and fought through the liberation of Seoul, then drove farther north than any other U.S. unit in the war.

From Inchon to the Chosin Reservoir, from Heartbreak Ridge to Pork Chop Hill, the 7th ID stood on the line until the Armistice was signed in July 1953.

The bayonet has always been pointed forward.
