Oh May, oh my! Sea turtle nesting season has officially begun! 🐢 Did you know that 90% of sea turtle nesting in the United States occurs on Florida's beaches? Read below for some important rules on how to keep our reptile friends safe this nesting season 👇

🕳️ If you dig a hole, fill it in! Turtles can fall into holes dug in the sand, so it's important to fill them in before you leave the beach.

🏰 Knock down those sandcastles. We know. It's sad to see your creation getting knocked down, but sandcastles can be obstacles for our turtle friends trying to find a nest.

🔦 Lights out! Bright lights disturb nesting. Refrain from using flashlights and turn off all beach-facing lights after dark.

🏖️ Share the Beach. Stay out of posted nesting areas and avoid setting up belongings on the edges of marked areas. If you see a nesting sea turtle, give it space and NEVER touch.

👣 Leave only your footprints. Everything you bring with you to the beach goes back home with you.
