A win for Roxy’s Law is a win for wildlife, public lands, and every person who believes we should be able to walk our trails without fear of hidden traps!

A few years ago, New Mexico chose a different path. After Roxy, a beloved senior dog, was strangled in a snare while out with her family, advocates fought to make sure her death would not be forgotten. That fight became Roxy’s Law: a historic ban on traps, snares, and poisons across New Mexico’s public lands.

This week, that hard-won protection stood strong. A legal challenge brought by commercial trapping interests failed in federal court, leaving Roxy’s Law in place. This is progress!

Because of Roxy’s Law, countless wild animals will never suffer a slow death in a steel trap or snare. Families can step onto public lands with a little more peace of mind. Dogs can share the trail with their people with less risk. Native wildlife, from foxes and coyotes to bobcats and beavers, have stronger protection from indiscriminate devices that do not distinguish between a target animal, a threatened species, or a beloved companion.

Here in Wyoming, we are fighting for that same common-sense vision. We need safer trails, meaningful setbacks, mandatory reporting, stronger protections for non-target animals, and an end to dangerous, indiscriminate devices that put wildlife, pets, and people at risk.
