Week 2 of Real Jesus Series Devotional: Reaching One Broken Person at a Time
Embracing the Lost: Following Jesus' Relational Heart
Introduction:
Welcome to Week 2 of our “Real Jesus: Reaching One Broken Person at a Time” series. Last week, we explored the compassionate essence of Jesus’ ministry, and this week, we’re diving headfirst into a powerful aspect of His mission: seeking and embracing the lost.
Verse:
Luke 19:10 (NIV)
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."
Reflection:
Point 1: The Pursuit of the Lost
Picture this: a bustling marketplace, diverse faces painted against the backdrop of life’s myriad colors. Amid the crowd stands Jesus—the embodiment of purpose and compassion. His eyes pierce beyond the surface, scanning not for the visible but for the invisible. He seeks the lost, those drifting through life’s maze in search of something more. Luke 19:10 captures the essence of His mission: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” This is no passive waiting; it’s an active, relentless pursuit.
Illustration:
Visualize a shepherd scaling craggy cliffs and traversing treacherous valleys to rescue a solitary sheep. Imagine the joy that erupts as he cradles the lost one in his arms. This is Jesus’ pursuit—a pursuit driven by undying love, a pursuit that beckons us to join Him.
Point 2: The Parable of the Lost Sheep and Coin
Open the pages of Luke 15:1-10, and you’ll hear Jesus’ heartbeat. The parables of the lost sheep and coin are brushstrokes on the canvas of His mission. A shepherd leaves the ninety-nine, a daring abandonment for the one. A woman, consumed by a burning desire, turns her world upside down for a single coin. This is Jesus’ artistry—lavish, daring, and drenched in love.
Illustration:
Envision a restless artist consumed by his canvas. Stroke after stroke, he creates not just art but a masterpiece. Jesus is the ultimate artist, crafting lives from brokenness. The lost are His canvas, and His pursuit is His brushstroke.
Point 3: Relational Ministry
In Mark 2:13-17, Jesus doesn’t just break bread; He shatters norms. He feasts with the unlikeliest of guests—tax collectors and sinners. He’s not content with shouting from a distance; He dives into the heart of lives. Our mandate? To infuse relationships with Christ’s love.
Illustration:
Imagine a bridge, built not of wood or steel but of connections. This bridge, woven with threads of compassion, reaches hearts. Labels crumble on its planks, revealing souls. This is our bridge, modeled after Jesus’ relational ministry.
Application:
This week, let’s be like Jesus—boldly stepping out. Are we scanning our world with a seeker’s eye? Are we diving into lives to create connections that echo Christ’s love? It’s time to cast off hesitation, embrace the lost, and illuminate the darkness.
Reflective Questions:
1. Can you leave the safety of your comfort zone to actively seek the spiritually lost?
2. Are the parables of the lost sheep and coin a challenge to your own daring pursuit? Dare to emulate their audacious love.
3. Recall when a guiding light shone in your lost moments. Now, will you become that light for someone else?
4. Do biases bar your path to the diverse lost? They can’t withstand the power of Christ’s love. Will you confront them?
5. Are you content with surface-level relationships or are you ready to build bridges of depth and transformation?
Prayer:
Lord, as Transformation Church, we fix our eyes on You—the Great Seeker. Kindle within us the fire of Christ’s mission. Open our vision to the lost, the seeking, the hungry. Let us be vessels of Your relentless grace, embracing the lost as a privilege. In the unwavering name of Jesus, amen.
Closing:
In this week’s journey, we’re throwing off timidity. As torchbearers of Christ’s pursuit, let’s break barriers, dive into lives, and leave trails of transformative love. As we embrace the lost, we spark flames of change, illuminating paths to Jesus—one step at a time. Rise, Transformation Church, and illuminate hearts with the unyielding love of Christ.
