From Student to Self-Advocate 🌱
Graduation is an exciting milestone—but it also marks a major transition from school-based supports to adult services. Many families are surprised to learn that an IEP ends when school ends, and adult services operate very differently. Through this series, we'll break down what happens after graduation, explain the transition process, and share resources to help individuals and families plan with confidence. At Optimal Case Management, we believe informed families make empowered decisions—and we're here to help guide the journey every step of the way.

Optimal’s June 2026 Employee Spotlight selection is Tara White.

Tara started as a Coordinator of Community Services in the Eastern Region with Optimal in January 2023. She was promoted to a Peer Support Coordinator in October 2023 and promoted again to a Resource Coordinator of Community Service in August 2024. She graduated from Western Governors University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. Tara is continuing her education by working on finishing her Master’s Degree this summer. Prior to starting at Optimal, Tara was a Special Education Teacher. Tara loves being able to get out into the community and see participants using their approved resources. Her biggest struggle is keeping up with all of the changes in the DDA system.

Tara lives in Pocomoke City with her husband of three years, Bryan White, and a 12-year-old stepson, Lance. Tara and Bryan are adding to their family, due in November! They also have three cats: Bobo, Clyde, and Goose.

Outside of work, Tara and Bryan like to go boating and fishing on the Pocomoke River. They also like spending time outside with friends and family. Their favorite place to vacation is spending a week in a cabin in the mountains of West Virginia.

At Optimal Case Management, we are passionate about helping individuals and families navigate the DDA system and access the services they need to thrive. It was a privilege to meet with families, answer questions, and provide guidance on the journey ahead.
